Vehicles plow through puddles on Hansen Road during a downpour Friday afternoon in Puunene. The National Weather Service issued a flash flood watch for the state on Thursday with heavy rains expected across the islands in the coming days. On Maui, Upcountry saw the most rain with 2.01 inches recorded at the Kula Branch Station over a 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m. Friday, according to the weather service. Puu Kukui in the West Maui Mountains recorded 1.91 inches of rain, while the West Wailuaiki gauge in East Maui saw 1.84 inches. County officials warned residents to prepare for possible flooding, landslides and power outages, with most of the storm impact expected on Sunday.
