4.7 magnitude quake shakes Maui County
A 4.7 magnitude earthquake shook Maui County early Tuesday morning, with residents across the islands reporting that they felt the tremors.
The earthquake took place at 12:51 a.m., a little over 6 miles north-northeast of Wailua in East Maui at a depth of about 25.5 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
A total of 822 people reported to the USGS “Did You Feel It?” feature with most saying they experienced weak to light shaking from the earthquake. Almost all areas of Maui, as well as parts of Molokai and Lanai, northeast areas of Hawaii island and southeast areas of Oahu, had reports of shaking.
Minutes after the earthquake, the National Weather Service said that no tsunami was expected.
