Boil water advisory ends in some areas

A boil water advisory has been lifted for residents of Polipoli Road, Kulanani Place, Koheo Road, Monden Drive and Pilikino Place, the county Department of Water Supply announced Thursday.

Many residents of Upper Kula have remained under a boil water advisory for weeks as the department works to rid the system of trace amounts of E. coli left behind the wake of a major storm in early December.

On Jan. 10, the department changed its water disinfectant from chloramines to chlorine in an attempt to clear away the last of the bacteria. It is also increasing flushing and disinfection efforts, including disassembling and cleaning pressure-reducing valves, standpipes and fire hydrants where testing has indicated the presence of bacteria.

The department continues to recommend boiling tap water as a precaution for residents of Lepelepe Place, Malamahale Place, Malia Uli Place, Waipoli Road, Naalae Road, Kawehi Place and Lower Kula Road between Naalae and Waipoli roads.
