High surf expected off north, west shores
Maui and Molokai are under a high surf advisory through 6 a.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.
Waves of 12 to 16 feet are expected along north-facing shores of Maui and Molokai, with surf of 6 to 12 feet along west-facing shores of Molokai.
A west-northwest swell was expected to peak Wednesday night before gradually diminishing today. A larger warning-level swell is expected to arrive on Friday, the weather service said.
On Thursday, the state Department of Health also canceled a brown water advisory from Waihee to Maliko.
