High surf expected through weekend

Waves are expected to build to 15 to 20 feet by this afternoon along north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui, while surf of 10 to 15 feet is in the forecast for west-facing shores of Molokai, according to the National Weather Service.

A reinforcing swell is predicted to follow the west-northwest swell that is currently moving through the islands. Surf was expected to briefly drop below advisory levels Friday night or early this morning as the second swell builds. However, the weather service extended the high surf advisory through 6 p.m. Sunday because the second swell will likely keep surf high along north- and west-facing shores through Sunday afternoon.
