Northwest swell fuels high surf
A high surf advisory has been extended for Maui and Molokai as a large, reinforcing northwest swell continues to buffet north- and west-facing shores.
The National Weather Service predicted surf to peak Thursday evening before slowly declining, though elevated surf will continue through today.
Waves of 14 to 18 feet are expected along north-facing shores of both islands, while surf of 10 to 15 feet is in the forecast for west-facing shores of Molokai.
The surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today.
