Applications open for MPD Teen Academy

The Maui Police Department is accepting applications for its 6th annual Teen Academy, which is designed to increase students’ understanding of a law enforcement career.

Sessions will be from June 13 to 24 and July 11 to 22.

The free program is limited to 10 to 12 students, ages 14 to 18.

Students must be able to participate in various physical activities without limitations.

A copy of the student’s last report card with a minimum grade-point average of 2.0 is required. Students will go through an application process, including an oral interview.

Topics covered in the sessions include crime scene investigations, fitness training, police arrest and defense tactics, leadership skills, firearm safety and CPR certification. The University of Hawaii Maui College will give presentations on higher education.
