Truck fire spreads to nearby brush

A Kenworth semitruck sustained an estimated $50,000 to $80,000 in damages after a fire broke out in its engine compartment and cab, Thursday morning along Honoapiilani Highway and Hokiokio Place in Lahaina, fire officials said Friday.

The fire from the truck extended to brush near the edge of the road, fire officials said. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and extinguished nearby brush. Traffic was disrupted to allow fire crews to safely work on the roadway.

Cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Time of alarm was at 8:39 a.m. with the incident concluded at 9:22 a.m.

The Lahaina engine, tanker and ladder crews all responded to the incident.
