Man attacked in car taken to hospital

A 55-year-old man was transported to the hospital Wednesday night after he reported another man threatened to kill him and tried to slash his neck in Kihei, police said.

Officers found the victim, who is known to frequent the Kihei area, with a laceration to his hand when police responded to a parking lot at Keonekai and South Kihei roads at 8:20 p.m., police said.

The man told police he had been sleeping in his vehicle when another man opened the door and threatened to kill him before attempting to slash his neck, police said. The victim reported suffering the laceration when he raised his hand to block the attack.

The suspect, who fled the area after the assault, was described as Caucasian, between 60 and 70 years old, under 6 feet tall and bald with a white beard.

The victim was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center.

The investigation is continuing, police said.
