Pedestrian injured in crash dies in hospital

A pedestrian who was critically injured when he was hit by a car last month in Kahului died last week at an Oahu hospital from injuries he suffered in the collision, police said.

He was identified as Jason Walsh, 51, who was known to frequent the Kahului area.

Police said he died at 11:04 a.m. June 15 at Kaiser Permanente Moanalua Medical Center.

Walsh was crossing Hana Highway at the intersection of Hookele Street at 5:24 a.m. May 26 when the collision occurred with a white 2005 Honda Civic sedan that was heading toward Kahului in the inner lane of Hana Highway, police said.

The 54-year-old Haiku man driving the Honda wasn’t injured, police said.

The traffic death was the 12th this year on Maui County roads, compared with six at the same time last year.
