Car flips over on Hana Highway

A 76-year-old Sacramento woman was taken to the hospital after her car was struck from behind and rolled upside down on Hana Highway Monday afternoon.

At about 3:23 p.m. Monday, officers responded to Hana Highway near the intersection of Hansen Road in Kahului, according to police. Officers found a silver 2019 Nissan Rogue SUV overturned and blocking the inner westbound lane of travel on Hana Highway.

Preliminary investigation found that the Nissan Rogue driver, a 76-year-old woman from Sacramento, had tried to get into the left turn lane to enter Hansen Road when a white 2018 Nissan Titan pickup truck struck the SUV from behind, causing the SUV to roll over, according to police.

The woman was wearing her seat belt at the time and was treated on the scene by medics. She was later transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center in stable conditon for further treatment.

The driver of the Nissan Titan, a 39-year-old Haiku man, was also wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash and did not report any injuries.
