Teen accused of assault with machete

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly striking a male in the head with a machete in the parking lot of Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in June, according to police.

The assault occurred June 16 when the victim was told to “drop your stuff” by someone he didn’t know. When the victim refused, he was struck with the machete on the right side of his head, causing a laceration, police said.

After being initially classified as a second-degree assault, the case was reclassified to attempted murder. Police said the 16-year-old boy was identified as the offender through investigation. He also was arrested for attempted unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, fourth-degree theft and being a juvenile runaway, police said.

The boy was detained pending a court hearing, police said.
