Fire department responds to 10 fires, 3 injuries

Maui firefighters responded to 10 fires and three injuries during New Year’s Eve and Day celebrations, most of which were fireworks-related incidents.
Of the 10 fires, five were trash bin/dumpster fires and two were vehicle fires, according to the Maui Fire Department. All were believed to be fireworks related, the department said.
MFD personnel also responded to three fireworks-related injuries, including one to a 6-year-old child, and two calls of people having difficulty breathing.
All of the incidents were reported between 8 p.m. on Saturday and 3 a.m. on Sunday.
