The Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui to host grand opening for Center of Hope
A grand opening for the Center of Hope at Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui will be from 4-5:30 p.m. Nov. 8, celebrating the renovated learning space made possible by a $45,000 grant from the Panda Cares Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Panda Express.
In addition to the check presentation, the ribbon cutting ceremony will feature food, a surprise book giveaway for youth, club tours and fun activities.
Elements of the new Center of Hope include a renovated multi-purpose room with a dedicated “chill zone” and new bookshelves. Also, replacing the standard rectangular tables are new hexagon tables and a whiteboard, encouraging group work and interactive learning.
Additional features include fresh paint on the walls and stripped and cleaned floors, new ceiling tiles, fans and modern furniture. The Center of Hope space has been designed within Central Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui to provide a safe and nurturing environment for youth to excel academically.
By implementing Project Learn, an evidence-based educational strategy, the Center of Hope will support youth-centered learning, character building, academic success and college readiness through activities such as homework help and tutoring and high-yield learning activities.
More than 80 local youth and staff are expected to attend the grand opening.
