New wine lounge appeals to Maui’s professionals
Candice Seti said that when she decided to open Kihei’s latest bar — deVine Wine Lounge — it was all about creating an enjoyable space.
“If you’re an adult and you want to go out and have a nice beverage and conversation, where are you going to go do that?” she asked.
Seti previously owned Ambrosia in Kihei years before and said she had always envisioned a place in South Maui that appealed to the island’s professionals and clientele age 30 and older.
“It was all about wanting a place that I would like to go to,” she said.
Recently, she made that vision a reality when she opened the doors to deVine Wine Lounge in December at the Azeka Shopping Center next to Maui Pie. deVine Wine Lounge had its soft opening Dec. 26, and there will be a grand opening the weekend of Jan. 24.
Seti said the response has been “amazing” so far.
Originally from New York, she said she styled the intimate, yet sophisticated space to a manner that was fun and inviting.
“When people ask me about the decor, I always say, ’90’s New York. ‘Sex in the City,'” she said.
With velvet chairs and couches, purple soft lighting and a detailed painting by artist Beck Paschoal, Seti said it’s an ideal place for those looking for a drink before or after a night out on the town.

Located near the ProArts Playhouse, she said many guests stop by on their way to a musical or show or before they dine at one of the several restaurants located nearby.
On their menu is a variety of white, red and bubbly wines to choose from, and Seti said she features some of her personal favorites such as Whitehaven, New Zealand – Bright, as well as some of the more trendy wines such as the popular Orange wine – a Gerard Bertrand, France.
“I’ve tasted every wine on this menu and have put everything on there that I love,” she said.
They also offer nonalcoholic beverages, and have happy-hour specials from 3-5 p.m. Also on the menu are beers and seltzers starting at $7, specialty cocktails for $16, a variety of food options prepared in-house by Magdangal, including the Naughty Gnudi for $22 that includes ricotta dumplings in sage lemon butter sauce, a meat charcuterie board for $26 and a $16 dessert board that comes with housemade semi-sweet truffles, pink champagne cake, Vietnamese coffee caviar and cream foam bites.
The space is also available to rent for private parties and events.
Teddy Thompson, the bar manager at deVine Wine Lounge, said both her and Seti have worked on the wine menu to design it in a way that is appealing to all.
Thompson is a wine connoisseur and has her Wine & Spirit Education Trust Award in Level 1. She said she enjoys being able to share her passion for wine with others.
“We have so many ideas and so many people are approaching us right now to collaborate, and I think there’s endless room for opportunity,” she said.
