J. Walter Cameron Center reveals honorees for gala

The J. Walter Cameron Center has announced that Alec McBarnet and Hideo Kawahara will be the distinguished honorees for the 50th Anniversary Cameron Center Gala on May 3.

According to the center, McBarnet and Kawahara have both played instrumental roles in strengthening the center’s ability to serve the Maui community.

McBarnet is the president of Maui Oil Company and served on the Cameron Center Board of Directors from 2003-21, taking on multiple leadership roles, including board president from 2015-17.

Under his leadership, the Cameron Center secured funding for facility upgrades, ensuring a sustainable and enhanced environment for the many nonprofit organizations that call the center home.

Kawahara of A&B Properties Hawaii is the longest-serving board member of the Cameron Center. As the Facility and Risk Management chair, he has been a driving force in guiding programming and capital improvement projects since the 1990s. His commitment has helped maintain and expand the center’s ability to provide affordable spaces for nonprofit agencies that deliver critical services to Maui’s residents.

“We are thrilled to recognize Alec McBarnet and Hideo Kawahara for their remarkable contributions to the Cameron Center,” said Cesar Gaxiola, executive director of the Cameron Center. “Their dedication and leadership have played a vital role in sustaining our mission of incubating, supporting, and accelerating social good in our community.”

The gala will be at the Grand Wailea Resort. For sponsorship opportunities and ticket information, go to jwcameroncenter.org or email Amy Johnson at amyj@jwcameroncenter.org.
