Maui volleyball players make waves at college level

Two former Maui Interscholastic League volleyball stars are putting up impressive stats at the college level early in the season.
Kekua Richards, a middle blocker Colorado State University, was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Rams to two wins on the road in the second week of the season.
Richards was born on Maui and graduated from Seabury Hall in 2023.
According to the college’s athletics department, Richards recorded 36 kills in four matches in a week. She also had 33 blocks with 13 alone in a five-set win over CSUN.
In 2024, Richards appeared in 13 sets as a redshirt freshman and ended the season with 13 kills and a .524 hitting percentage while adding seven blocks for Colorado State. Colorado State currently has a 3-3 record.

At Chaminade University on Oahu, Lilinoe Paschoal has recorded 146 assists for the women’s volleyball team through seven games this season.
The freshman setter graduated from Baldwin High School in 2025. On Aug. 28 and 29, she recorded 25 assists and 27 assists while playing against Alaska Anchorage. Paschoal has also put up 52 digs and four aces in 27 sets played.
Despite a slow start to the 2025 season with a 2-5 mark, Chaminade is ranked No. 24 in the first regular season AVCA Division II Coaches Poll released Monday. The Silverswords remain in the poll for a record-29th consecutive week.
