Don Couch to kick off campaign May 16

Former County Council Member Don Couch will kick off his campaign for the state Legislature on May 16 at the Kihei VFW Hall, Couch announced Friday.

Couch is seeking the District 11 seat, representing Kihei, Wailea and Makena, which current state Rep. Kaniela Ing is vacating to run for Congress.

The campaign event will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature food, entertainment and the chance to meet and talk with Couch. A suggested $20 donation to the campaign may be made at the event.

Currently an executive assistant to Maui County Mayor Alan Arakawa, Couch served on the County Council from 2011 to 2016. He chaired the Planning Committee for six years and was the vice chairman of the Policy and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee.

Prior to serving on the council, he was the deputy director of the Planning Department under Arakawa.

A 27-year resident of Kihei, Couch also was a founding member of Kihei’s Fourth Friday Town Party, served as a volunteer and board member of the Kihei Community Association and has been a member of the board of directors of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Maui since 2004.
