Kayes seeks House seat
Dr. Andrew Kayes has announced his candidacy for the House District 9 seat as a nonpartisan candidate.
He is a practicing physician and medical director of Maui Diagnostic Imaging in Kahului.
In his announcement, Kayes expressed his opposition to the recently passed physician assisted suicide law.
“I hope to foster a culture in Hawaii that respects and reveres life. All life,” he said. “My sincere hope is to foster a culture where young people in Hawaii develop a strong foundation, a core belief, that all life is important, all life is sacred and all life special.”
He said he will be an advocate for the most vulnerable in society, including the terminally ill and the unborn.
Kayes said that he will not be accepting contributions to his campaign and would encourage people to donate to a charity instead.
He will face the winner of the Democratic primary between Kauanoe Batangan and incumbent Justin Woodson in the general election. The district includes Kahului, Puunene, Old Sand Hills and Maui Lani.
