Hashimoto event planned Thursday

The Friends of Troy Hashimoto will be hosting a pupu, coffee and conversation fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Maui Coffee Attic, 59 Kanoa St. in Wailuku. Hashimoto, a Democrat, currently serves as the state Representative for District 8 (Wailuku, Waikapu, Waiehu, Puuohala, Kahakuloa, Waihee) and will be on the primary election ballot on Aug. 11. Candidate rally set in Paukukalo Friday

A candidate rally, organized by the Paukukalo Hawaiian Homes Community Association, will be held from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday at Hale Pomaikai in the Paukukalo Hawaiian Homestead area. Candidates running for the state House District 8 (Wailuku, Waikapu, Waiehu, Puuohala, Kahakuloa, Waihee) and Maui County Council have been invited to attend.

The public will have an opportunity to meet and ask questions of the candidates.

The event is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring a main dish for the potluck.

Wildberger gets HGEA endorsement

Tina Wildberger, who is running for the open South Maui state House seat, has received the endorsement of the Hawaii Government Employees Association.

Wildberger, a Democrat, is running against former County Council Member Don Couch in the primary Aug. 11 for the seat vacated by incumbent Rep. Kaniela Ing. The 11th District covers Kihei, Wailea and Makena.

The HGEA includes a 43,000-person membership statewide.

“The men and women represented by HGEA, which includes state and county and UH-Maui employees, as well as registered nurses, provide essential services and are part of the backbone of Hawaii communities,” said Wildberger. “I am honored to have HGEA’s endorsement.”
