Nikhilananda to appear on Molokai

Nick Nikhilananda, who is running for the state House District 13 seat, will be on Molokai on Wednesday and Thursday to meet with voters.

The Green Party candidate, running for the East Maui-Lanai-Molokai seat, will be attending the Ahupua’a ‘o Molokai/Vote2Rise Coalition Meet and Greet Candidate Forum 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Mitchell Pauole Center.

He will be available Thursday to connect with voters.

Baker gets backing of trade unions

State Sen. Roz Baker has received the endorsement of the construction trade unions, including the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1186 and Operating Engineers Local 3.

She also was endorsed by the General Contractors Association of Hawaii.

The Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters is the state’s largest construction trade union with 7,000 members. The IBEW Local 1186 has 4,000 members, consisting of electricians, telecommunications, Charter Communication/Spectrum employees (both blue- and white-collar), and civilian positions on the military bases.

The Operating Engineers Local 3, the largest construction trades local in the U.S., has more than 35,000 members in California, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah.

“Roz Baker demonstrates an unwavering support of issues that are important to our membership, their families, and the construction industry as a whole,” said Brooke Wilson of the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters.

Baker, a Democrat, is running for re-election to her 6th District seat, which includes South and West Maui.

Accountants PAC supports English

The Hawai’i Association of Public Accountants PAC recently endorsed Senate Majority Leader J. Kalani English, who represents Senate District 7, which includes Hana, Molokai and Lanai.

“Our endorsement of Sen. English is based upon his long-standing support of local jobs for local people and his commitment to help small businesses receive fair and equitable tax treatment,” said Marilyn Niwao Roberts, chairwoman of HAPA PAC.

HAPA, an organization of accounting practitioners in Hawaii, offers continuing professional education classes, social events and an annual convention.
