On The Campaign Trail
Victorino endorsed by chamber
Former Maui County Council Member Mike Victorino has been endorsed for mayor by the Chamber of Maui Political Action Committee, which announced its picks of “business-friendly” candidates for the Nov. 6 general election.
County Council candidates getting a nod from the chamber group were: Claire Kamalu Carroll, East Maui residency seat; Rick Nava, West Maui; Alice Lee, Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu; Alan Arakawa, Kahului; Zandra Amaral Crouse, South Maui; Mike Molina, Makawao-Haiku-Paia; Yuki Lei Sugimura, Upcountry; Riki Hokama, Lanai; and Stacy Crivello, Molokai.
Also receiving Maui chamber endorsements were Republican Andria Tupola for governor, and U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono and U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for re-election.
Committee members interviewed candidates and evaluated them in terms of chamber positions, priorities, values and current issues. Endorsed candidates needed to achieve a minimum score to gain the chamber’s backing. The candidates were not selected based on popularity or electability.
