Training to begin for caring visits

Training for those who want to learn how to make caring visits in the hospital and in homes will be offered Sept. 8-9 and 22-23 at Iao United Church of Christ, 2371 W. Vineyard St., Wailuku. This workshop is offered by the Tri-Isle Association of the United Church of Christ in an effort to equip tomorrow’s church leaders. The training is open to those who apply. The deadline for registration is Aug. 31.

The Rev. Danette Kong will lead the team that offers the training. She has served as a hospital chaplain on Oahu and on Maui. The sessions will run from 5:30 p.m. on Fridays until 8:30 p.m. and from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. The break of a week in the classes will allow participants time to make actual visits and then report back to the group.

As a part of the training, each participant will receive the Chaplaincy Care Volunteer Manual. Because each manual costs $35, each participant will be asked to pay a $60 registration fee (book, training and meals).

The training includes dinner on the Friday nights, and breakfast and lunch on the Saturdays.

This is funded by grants and the Tri-Isle Association of the United Church of Christ through its Equipping Tomorrow’s Church Leaders program.

Help with transportation and lodging is available for those coming from Molokai and Lanai, and some scholarship assistance is available.
