Group seeks items for children

Compassion In Action-Maui, the benevolent arm of the Faith In Jesus Church near Sac N Save in Wailuku, is launching the Paukukalo-Waiehu-Waihee Aloha Ohana volunteer community organization for all faiths, to keep the Christmas spirit of giving and sharing continue throughout the year, according to an announcement.

Many of the needy are grateful for all the help they receive at this time of the year, but feel lonely and destitute the rest of the year.

The third Saturday of each month, CIA-Maui sponsors a teleconferencing program so that prisoners from Hawaii who are incarcerated in Arizona can connect with their loved ones on Maui. The organization shares groceries, furniture and hot meals with those who come.

From 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 16, during the teleconferencing, there will be a Christmas party for the children on behalf of the parents who are in Arizona.

People who live in the Paukukalo-Waiehu-Waihee area who would like to be a part of this party and the ongoing sharing and giving throughout the year should call Ronnie Farren at 244-1286. The organization hopes to present children with Christmas gifts on behalf of their parents. Food, gifts, gift cards and party items are being accepted in the church office and all gifts at tax deductible.
