Congregation plans celebration

The Jewish Congregation of Maui invites the community to celebrate the Jewish New Year of the Trees, also known as Tu B’Shvat, on Sunday.

Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the Haiku Community Center before heading to the farm of Tracy Stice. In addition to planting trees, attendees will be able to pick fruit from laden trees to either keep or donate to the Maui Food Bank and other outlets that feed the hungry.

Participants should wear closed-toe shoes and bring a hat, sunscreen and bag lunch. Long pants, long-sleeved shirts and gloves are advised. Participants should also bring 5-gallon buckets or grocery bags. Tools will be provided for the day.

For more information, call the Jewish Congregation of Maui office at 874-5397.
