Talk story with Rev. Ken Tanaka

Makawao Hongwanji Mission invites everyone to join an online lecture and talk story session with the Rev. Ken Tanaka, a noted Jodo Shinshu scholar, author, professor emeritus and ordained Buddhist priest.

He will be joining the mission live from Japan from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday via Zoom.

Tanaka will be talking story about his new book, “Jewels: An Introduction to American Buddhism for Youth, Scouts and the Young at Heart.”

Registration to start for classes

Families may register for 2020-21 Family Faith Formation classes at St. Theresa Roman Catholic Church, 25 West Lipoa St., Kihei, after each Mass on Aug. 8 and 9. Thereafter, families may visit or call the church office at 879-4844 to register.   

Family Faith Formation classroom/in-person instruction will resume at the church on Sep. 20. Age-specific classes are scheduled weekly as follows: 

• Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 — Sunday, 8:15 a.m. 

• Grade 6 to Grade 8 — Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. 

• Grade 9 to Grade 12 — Sunday, 6:30 p.m.

Safety protocols will be reviewed with families and students before classes resume.
