Norman Seiyu Nakama, 89

Norman Seiyu Nakama, 89, of Wailuku, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2015 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Services are scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Nakamura Mortuary, with visitation at 2:30p.m., and services at 3:30p.m.

Nakamura Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.

Mr. Nakama was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Haiku. He was the son of Yuzo and Goze Nakama.

He is survived by his wife, Mae Nakama, whom he was married to for 60 years; two sons, Lester (Diane) Nakama, and Michael (Amy) Nakama; two grandsons, Grant (Jenna) Nakama, and Justin Nakama; two granddaughters, Aimee (Brendan Fujii) Nakama, and Sarah Nakama; and one great grandson, Kanon.

Norman graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944, joined the U.S. Army serving in communications, then went on to receive a Chemical Engineering degree from Tri-State University in Indiana. He then returned home to help run the family business, Aloha Poi Factory.

Norman enjoyed golfing & being down at the beach with his family & friends.

He is described by his family as being kind, loving, and always putting others before himself.
