John Henry Terhorst, 89
John was a devoted husband, a caring father and a friend to everyone. He was born September 20, 1926 in Everett, Washington to Jon & Eva Terhorst. John was the youngest of 8 children. The family moved to California in 1936. After high school John enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in Hawaii during World War II. He met his forever sweetheart Joan Weessies at church and the two were united in marriage on June 22, 1951. Together they raised 2 daughters in the Los Angeles area. After retiring, John & Joan moved to Maui. John loved sailing, cruising and tinkering around the house. John loved traveling the world with Joan and together they visited all 7 continents. He also volunteered countless hours to his church and community.
John passed to the arms of the Lord peacefully on June 9, 2016. He is survived by his wife, Joan; sister, Annie Thuele; daughters, Terri Stuteville and Robin (Bill) Robison; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A service in celebration of his life will be held on June 18, 2016 at 10:00am at Keawala’i Congregational Church, 5300 Makena Road in Makena, Maui. All who knew John are welcome. Aloha wear requested.
