Harold Haruo Kametani, 92

Kametani of Kula, Maui passed away on August 3, 2023 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born on February 4, 1931 to Masaichi and Chiso Kametani in Kula, Maui.

After graduation from Maui High School, he worked at Von Hamm Young Co. as a repair shop clerk for a year. Then he enlisted in the Army. After being discharged, he attended school in Michigan and found a job in CA. He lived in Torrance, CA and retired from Northrop Grumman as a computer Engineer. Hal moved to Las Vegas for several years before returning to Maui. He was an active and proud member of the Korean War Veterans Association.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 10:00a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with service over urn to start at 11:00 a.m. at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului. Urn inurnment will take place at Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.

Harold is predeceased by his brothers, Isao (Natsue), Shinobu, Masaya (Ayame), Thomas (Tokuko), and Kazuya Kametani; and his sisters Chiyono (Mitsuo) Ito and Yukie (Henry) Nihei. He is survived by his nephews, Ricky, Alvin, Clyde, Michael, and Daniel Kametani, David (dec.), Donald and Edward Ito, Dennis, Craig, and Randy Nihei, and nieces, Carol Nagano, Joan Kawahara, Grace Polido,Kay Ogasawara, Avis Tumpap, Linda Daida, and Nora Kametani.

The family thanks all those who visited or wrote notes (especially the Korean Veterans) when he could no longer live alone.
