Elaine Nobuko Ichikawa Suzuki

Elaine Nobuko Ichikawa Suzuki, age 89, passed away peacefully at home on February 4, 2024 under the care of Hospice Maui. She was born on May 12, 1934 in Paia to Kimiko and Shigeo Ichikawa of Haiku. Elaine was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence Suzuki, and sons, Clyde and Wayne Suzuki. She is survived by her son, Ryan (Michele) Suzuki; daughters in law: Paige Nakano and Lianne Suzuki; grandchildren: Chad, Mitchell, and Miya Suzuki; brothers: Ralph, James (Tio), and Kenneth Ichikawa who live in California.

Elaine was a school secretary, a job she dreamed of doing since she was young. She was a school secretary for over 35 years and retired from Paia School in 1992. After retirement, Elaine co-authored a cookbook, “Hawaii Style Sushi and Other Local Favorites,” with her friend, Nancy Sakamoto. She also started a cookie company with her son Clyde, “Elaine’s Maui Cookies.” They eventually sold the company, giving Elaine more time to spend with her family, especially her grandkids, whom she adored.

A private service was held at Kahului Hongwanji Mission on March 9, 2024. Thank you to Hospice Maui, Reverend Ai Hironaka and the volunteers at Kahului Hongwanji Mission. To all the family and friends who came to visit her, she really enjoyed your company and all the stories you shared. Thank you for being a part of her life.
