Slack key fest today

For well over a decade, The Maui News has been proud to sponsor the Ki Ho’alu Slack Key Guitar Festival at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

It is our way to say thank you to all our readers for your support and patronage.

Today, the 28th edition of the festival takes place at the MACC’s Yokouchi Pavilion/A&B Amphitheater. The six-hour concert begins at 1 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m. with gates opening at 12:30 p.m. It will showcase some of Hawaii’s best slack key guitarists.

Among the scheduled performers are Halemanu, George Kuo, Brother Noland, Lance Takamiya, Danny Carvalho, Michael Ka’awa, Wilson Kanaka’ole, Tavana, Dwight Kanae, John Keanaaina, Ka’eo, Kamuela Kahoano, Pa’ani, Wesley Furumoto, Will Tafolo, Aja Gample and Jonah Domingo.

As always, there also will be local style food and Hawaiian arts and crafts.

Take the whole family out Sunday for a wonderful concert featuring the magical music of our slack-key stars.

The public is welcome, admission is free and the setting is perfect for this harmonious, laid-back afternoon of unbeatable entertainment.
