As president and CEO of Maui Gold Pineapple Co. and president of the Maui County Farm Bureau, I am deeply committed to agriculture in Maui County. As such, it is important to me to have council members who understand and support Maui’s agricultural businesses. I believe we can trust Yuki Lei Sugimura, council candidate from the Upcountry district, to ensure that Maui County’s agricultural industry continues to thrive in the years to come.

I have known Yuki for over 10 years. During that time, I have seen Yuki support our local farmers by assisting with the Ulupalakua Thing for three years as the project coordinator. She has shown her support for HC&S employees as a volunteer with A Hui Hou community group to help raise money for the employees who will transition out of sugar by the end of this year. She encourages the expansion of the Kula Agricultural Park, diversified agriculture, and energy crops. Yuki understands agriculture’s important role in Maui’s economy.
