Variable climate will raise cost of food crops

Right now, fossil fuels provide 80 percent of all the energy consumed in the USA — reliably and affordably, from relatively small land areas. Wind and solar account for 2 percent of overall energy needs, expensively and intermittently, from facilities across millions of acres. Biofuels provide 3 percent — mostly from corn grown on nearly 40 million acres. About 3 percent comes from hydroelectric, 3 percent from wood and trash, 9 percent from nuclear.

“Free” solar and wind energy are not “free,” not even in Hawaii. To think otherwise is to sit at the Mad Hatter’s tea party in “Alice in Wonderland” fantasy stories.

Start growing your own food, people. The global climate is going to become much more variable and that will raise the cost of food crops in stores.

Oh, “much more variable” includes “a lot colder.”

Did you know Hawaii had more snow this last (2016-17) winter than Chicago?

Start your gardens now, if you haven’t already.
