Wilson used his middle name for greater stature

I enjoyed the June 23 letter from a reader about President Wilson. To quote, “(E)very grammar school kid knows the first name of the 28th president of the United States was Woodrow.”

Actually, this could qualify as “fake news.” The first name of the president was not “Woodrow.” It was Thomas. However, Wilson felt it was not dignified because everyone referred to him as Tommy Wilson when he was a kid. Later, he began to use his middle name, which was “Woodrow,” to give him greater stature.

Please let every grammar school kid know.
