County properties could be used for affordable housing
Maui County keeps buying land and doing nothing with it. Recently, they paid $10,000,000 at Peahi Point that is now a dirt bike racing track and a community dump. Ten years ago, they bought about 30 acres across from the Valley Isle Cemetery for a fire station. It is now totally overgrown with albizia and African tulip trees.
Either of these properties would be a good start for providing affordable housing. Just take a look at what is being completed above Haiku School as an example. A public/private partnership could work. Quit talking and let’s get to work.
