Career Maui politicians are cause for alarm
The front-page article about career politicians should alarm voters (The Maui News, June 13). A mayor should be limited to only two four-year terms whether consecutive or not; council members should be able to serve five two-year terms, period. Career politicians are usually funded by special interests and wind up supporting those same interests.
Ask yourself, why didn’t Alan Arakawa, Riki Hokama and Mike Molina build more affordable housing during their terms in office? As for Alice Lee and her 10 years on the council and four years as head of housing, what exactly did she get built?
The Ohana candidates are an opportunity to elect a slate of candidates not beholden to special interests, fresh faces and new voices to speak for “We the people” who have been ignored by the old boys’ club.
