Op-ed was an unfortunate, misguided commentary
I entered Wailuku Elementary School in 1933 and graduated from Baldwin High School in 1944. Two friends who also attended Wailuku public schools during that time graduated from Harvard Law School. Others became physicians, engineers and educators.
The May 20 Viewpoint published in The Maui News that attacked that era’s public education system and disparaged the excellent, dedicated work given during those years by our teachers was an unfortunate, misguided commentary.
Much that is good about Hawaii today is the result of the work of those past public school teachers, who are not forgotten.
