Candidate doesn’t want to play money game

Having no political experience, my friend Honest Ori is running for mayor. He cannot be bought as he is not raising any money and is spending only $1,000 on his campaign. He was a successful Silicon Valley executive.

He does not want to win mayor based on raising the most money. Your July 14 front-page article sports how much money each mayoral candidate has on hand, as if the one with the most is poised to win. Have you heard that he who wins the rat race is still a rat?

Ori doesn’t want to play the money game. He got 697 votes in the last election, having spent only a pile of his money.

Rather, as a maverick, Ori wants to create Mauitopia (see mauitopia.org). He wants to raise everyone’s consciousness and create the ideal society of the future.

Having been a longtime Maui resident myself, I think we should give Honest Ori, who graduated in the top 10 percent of his engineering class at Stanford University, a chance to run our county government.
