Lawmakers were rightfully part of bill-signing ceremony
As chair of the state Legislature’s House Finance Committee, I know firsthand that it takes a collaborative effort by many individuals to pass a bill. A July 4 letter to the editor suggested that certain lawmakers “blocked” SB3095, a new law that bans harmful pesticides and creates buffer zones around our schools. As one of the co-authors of the final bill language, I felt the need to correct this mistruth.
Reps. Kyle Yamashita and Angus McKelvey and Sen. Roz Baker were all supporters of SB3095 and consistently voted in favor of the bill this past session. In fact, Rep. Yamashita and Sen. Baker both contributed to the core components of SB3095 and deserve to be recognized for their leadership.
During a busy session, it is often easy to miss the teamwork that goes into passing legislation, especially one that may be controversial. I am grateful for the assistance and support of Rep. Yamashita, Rep. McKelvey and Sen. Baker in passing SB3095 and they were rightfully included as a part of the bill-signing ceremony.
