Troy Hashimoto should stay at the county level
Troy Hashimoto tipped his hand in the July 29 article on state House District 8 candidates when he wrongly claimed that a proposed constitutional amendment for education funding would be “taking tools away for the county and giving it to the state.”
Not only does he display ignorance of the meaning of “surcharge,” a payment over and above the tax collected and dedicated to counties, but he highlights his seven years spent in Maui County Councilman Mike White’s office, working to oppose every education funding proposal put forth in the state Legislature.
Don’t be fooled by his statements on the many, many campaign postcards filling your mailbox; Hashimoto opposes funding that would pay for the grand educational improvements he claims he wants to make.
