Option for homeowners at washed-out road
It is very unfortunate that two homeowners are cut off from their properties in Haiku due to the washed-out road which accesses them. The county faces huge costs to repair the road.
Here is another option: The county can “buy out” the owners so that they could relocate to comparable homes elsewhere and close the road at the point where it is destroyed. Compared with the cost of repairing the huge gap, this might make sense. If it were a larger neighborhood, it would warrant an expensive repair, but two homes? Another storm could wipe out any new fixes and we are back where we are now.
Very sorry but these homes should be a write-off. They can still salvage all their belongings and make a fresh start in a safer location. Special thanks to all first responders who work so hard keeping us safe.
