Proposed constitutional amendment a poor idea

I strongly support better pay (including overtime) for teachers, but I do not support the proposed constitutional amendment for an “education tax.”

It is a “bass ackwards” way of funding teachers. Straightforward legislation would be far better without messing with county real property taxes, and without amending the constitution.

If the state does not want to fund teachers, they should turn education over to the counties (never happen), and let the counties decide how much to pay teachers.

If the county wants to increase real property taxes (on investment property or any other property), then it should do so straightforwardly, not involving the state constitution/laws.
