I was impressed and informed by the former director of Environmental Management’s comprehensive evaluation of the Lahaina injection well lawsuit in a recent Viewpoint (The Maui News, May 31). Anyone who thinks withdrawing the county’s appeal from the U.S. Supreme Court is a good idea is either uninformed or jumping on the fear bandwagon.

If the Supreme Court agreed to hear this case, it’s obviously an important issue, right? As Kyle Ginoza said, if the county withdraws, this will negatively affect the county’s water recycling program and private properties near the coast on septic systems or cesspools. There’s no guesswork about it.

The County Council should represent the best interests of Maui County, not listen to people suing it. I don’t understand why this is even an issue.
