Motorists, pedestrians get green light at same time

The other day I witnessed an accident about to happen. The traffic light turned green, allowing vehicles to turn both right from Makawao Avenue and left onto Old Haleakala Highway. At the same time the pedestrians were given the green light to cross.

A very young family was crossing: mother, dad and two babies. They were in the shadows since it was around 5:30 in the afternoon. Either vehicle could have run into them, but came to a quick stop.

I have a very difficult time understanding why both vehicles and pedestrians are given the green light at the same time. This can easily be corrected.

Who cares enough to change this? Mayor, do you?
