Mainland police issue fireworks citations

The Santa Barbara County, Calif.-based Noozhawk site recently reported that the Santa Maria Police Department has already issued 15 citations for fireworks violations in the run-up to this year’s July 4th celebration. Like Maui, Santa Maria allows for the sale of “safe and sane” fireworks. Unlike Maui, the city’s police department actually enforces the fireworks laws.

The article states the Santa Maria PD has assigned 10 officers to focus on nothing else but fireworks enforcement. The article can be viewed at www.noozhawk.com/article/santa_maria_police_hand_out_15_citations_for_illegal_fireworks_use_20190703.

Please do what you can to convince MPD that fireworks enforcement is actually possible. I’ll be glad to furnish MPD with SMPD’s contact information so they can learn how it’s done there.
