Anti-carbon bias letter requires a response

A response to the Aug. 13 letter claiming anti-carbon “bias” created by political, academic and media entities is driving a false narrative about global warming requires a response. There is overwhelming scientific consensus that fossil fuel-based CO2 production is the leading factor in catastrophic climate change.

No serious scientists or institutions think that the reasons for the Earth heating up are in doubt. It is a man-made problem. Disliking the message or the messenger will not change this situation. Calling people who accept this fact “global warmists” trivializes them as well as fostering the idea that there is still serious debate.

To quote Neil deGrasse Tyson: “The good thing about science is it’s true whether or not you believe in it.”

Because decision-makers in the current administration still pretend that the jury is out, it’s up to us to do all we can, such as using more solar and wind power, using less fossil fuels and being mindful of how our patterns of consumption affect the planet.
