Open Kihei high on time with walkway alternative
There is no need to reinvent the wheel and no need to build an unnecessary, expensive “Maginot Line,” the construction of which would present an infrastructure and traffic nightmare lasting months (or years) longer than an actual nightmare.
Use the underpasses below Piilani Highway at Kalanihakoi and Waipuilani gulches that are already there and would require minimal retrofit. This solution, outlined in a Nov. 15 letter from Buck Joiner, would be a safer and much better solution. Maui County can little afford expensive, ineffective projects. And neither can we the people.
