Support council bill allowing DUI towing
In The Maui News of Dec. 12, a new bill for Maui County was described. This bill, if passed, will allow MPD to get the vehicles of drivers under the influence towed on the spot. This bill will prevent the revolving door status quo where a driver can be arrested, post bail and go right back to pick up the vehicle to continue the party.
This is a great step forward for Maui County. Hawaii County already has such a law and I urge all to let their County Council members know how they feel about this issue; it will help prevent drunk driving deaths.
Current statistics show that 15 of the 22 traffic deaths this year were due to impaired driving. Let’s give MPD another tool to get these drivers off the road.
