Tip flight attendants while airline contract stalls

I have flown Hawaiian Airlines for many years. Their flight attendants always are friendly, gracious and do a great job. I think it is inexcusable that the flight attendants have been negotiating for three years for a new contract with the airline, so far, without success.

On my last flight on Hawaiian in December, the flight attendant who was serving my section did a great job. I was very appreciative. As I was leaving the plane, he was standing by the exit door. I offered him a $20 tip to thank him for his excellent service. He tried to decline my gesture, but I just stuck the bill in his shirt pocket. Perhaps, if Hawaiian can’t find the means to fairly compensate their flight attendants, they could let passengers know that tipping the flight attendants is welcomed and encouraged.
