East Maui for all, open it back up

The unrestrained language and fearmongering surrounding COVID-19 of Sen. English and Mayor Victorino has made the opening of East Maui contentious.

After three months of scaring the people of East Maui, the time to open East Maui is on the table.

I see three different opinions on opening East Maui. First, is it too dangerous to let people in because of COVID-19? After all the scaremongering by our local leaders, I understand why people are afraid of outsiders.

Second, there are people who just don’t want anyone not from East Maui to visit East Maui. These people feel that it’s their right to take advantage of the resources outside of East Maui (shopping, medical care, etc.) while living behind a roadblock in their private community.

Third, there are people who want to take control of the road by managing traffic. I think this is the best idea. East Maui means so much to all the residents of Maui, so please open it back up.
